Aluminium Foil Pharmaceutical Packaging

There are currently two types of aluminium foil pharmaceutical packaging on the market, mainly 8011 and 8021 aluminum foils. The aluminum foils used for pharmaceutical packaging usually have the following types: PTP aluminum foil, aluminum blister foil, aluminum-plastic composite material and drug bottle caps.

The quality of aluminium foil pharmaceutical packaging is very strict, it is even higher than food grade aluminium foil. Then what are the quality aspects of aluminum foil for pharmaceutical packaging?

1, The pinhole degree of aluminum foil

Pinhole is a key indicator for evaluating the quality of pharmaceutical aluminum foil, which mainly affects the barrier properties of packaging materials, and is particularly important for medicinal aluminum foils. Pinholes are a defect that is difficult to avoid in the process of aluminum foil processing. According to the results of the water vapor transmission test of the pinhole-containing area of the medicinal aluminum foil, it can be proved that the smaller pinholes (≤0.2mm) are not effective for the aluminum foil for pharmaceutical packaging. The water vapor barrier effect is negligible due to the "blocking" effect of the adhesive. Excessive holes are easy to break the adhesive coating film and make the holes lose their barrier properties. This is exactly the "01~O2mm pinhole per square meter in the YBB00152002-2015 standard. Less than 1 per square meter, and pinholes larger than 0.3mm are not. allowed” basis.

2, Elongation of aluminum foil

When the composite film for pharmaceutical flexible packaging containing aluminum foil is heat-sealed, the aluminum foil layer must withstand the combined force of the pulling and shearing process at the junction of the pressure-non-pressure area. The smaller elongation means that the aluminum foil is "brittle" and easy to break. . The elongation test of aluminum foil is carried out on the tensile testing machine. The tensile testing machine with more functions can directly read the displacement of the aluminum foil test strip before and after the fracture, and calculate the elongation of the aluminum foil when it is broken according to the displacement before and after the fracture and the length of the test sample.

3, Surface tension of aluminum foil

Gravure printing is inseparable from the surface tension of aluminum foil and ink. Rolling oil is used in the processing of aluminum foil, and the residual rolling oil is the main factor causing the low surface tension of aluminum foil. For the aluminium foil pharmaceutical packaging, due to the process and characteristics of the soft aluminum foil, the surface tension is high, and generally there will not be too many problems. Adhesive tape pressing and rolling machine is suitable for testing the bonding fastness of printing ink layers for plastic film and cellophane decorative printing products (including composite film printing products) produced by gravure printing process. It is also used to test the adhesion state of the surface layer formed by vacuum coating, surface coating, compounding and other related processes.
