Differences Between 5052 and 5083 Aluminum Sheet Products

2019-02-12 16:23:12

Chemical Composition Difference

5052: Si 0+ Fe0.45 Cu0.1 Mn0.1 Mg2.2-2.8 Cr0.15-0.35 Zn 0.1

5083: Si 0.4 Fe0.4 Cu0.1 Mn0.3-1.0 Mg4.0-4.9 Cr 0.05-0.25 Zn 0.25

Anodizing Property Difference

The two differ little in anodizing property, for their main difference lies in mechanical properties which are a collection of commonly used indicators of metallic materials. In the mechanical manufacturing industry, general mechanical parts are used in normal temperature, normal pressure and non-strong corrosive media, and each mechanical part will be subjected to different loads during use. In terms of tensile strength and yield strength, the aluminium sheet 5083 is much stronger than the 5052 aluminum sheet.

5052 aluminum sheet and aluminium sheet 5083

Difference in Mechanical Properties

The content of Mg in the 5052 aluminum sheet is 2.5%, which is lower than most other Al-Mg aluminum sheet products. It has a medium strength after cold work hardening, a high fatigue strength, a good low temperature performance and a good corrosion resistance. With the decrease of temperature, tensile strength, yield strength and elongation get strengthened. The sheet has a good plasticity in the annealed state, a high work hardening rate, a low plasticity in the hard state, and a good weldability, but the welding crack sensitivity coefficient is large.

Aluminium sheet 5083 is a typical aluminum alloy in rust-proof aluminum. It is characterized by excellent corrosion resistance and weldability, good processing properties and low temperature properties. It cannot be heat treated or strengthened. In order to prevent "aging softening" and stable corrosion resistance, the semi-finished product needs to be subjected to stabilization annealing. In order to compensate for the decrease in yield strength during repeated annealing, the final cold deformation should be maintained above 50%.

Difference in Application

The 5052 aluminium sheet has good formability, corrosion resistance, candle resistance, fatigue strength and medium static strength. It is mainly used to manufacture aircraft fuel pipes and tanks, parts in various ships and transportation vehicles. , sheet metal products, instruments, street lamp brackets, rivets and wires.

The 5083 aluminum sheet is used in products requiring high corrosion resistance, good weldability and moderate strength, such as aircraft missile parts, drilling devices, vehicles, decks, TV towers, boat hulls, ocean liner superstructures, dump trucks and Truck body, non-oxidized welding pressure vessels, fire pressure cylinders, cryogenic storage tanks, low temperature experimental station devices, etc.

Regular Tempers

Regular tempers for the 5052 aluminum sheet are H32, H34 and other states. Under H34 state 5052 sheet has a tensile strength of 260MPA, yield strength210MPA and elongation 16.

Regular tempers for the aluminium sheet 5083 are H12, H32, H34 and other states. Under H34 state 5083 sheet has a tensile strength of 325MPA, yield strength255MPA and elongation 10.
